Command Prompt


Command Prompt is officially called Windows Command Processor but is also sometimes called the command shell or by its filename cmd.exe.

A command prompt is an entry point for typing computer commands in the Command Prompt window.

By typing commands at the command prompt, you can perform tasks on your computer without using the Windows graphical interface.

How to open command prompt

- Click the Start button Picture of the Start button.

- In the Search box, type Command Prompt, and then, in the list of results,double-click Command Prompt.



ipconfig Command

ipconfig command displays the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for all adapters.

Displays all current TCP/IP network configuration values and refreshes Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Domain Name System (DNS) settings.


DIR Command

DIR can be used to display information about files from one or more directories (local or remote), in a wide range of formats. 

Syntax

      DIR [pathname(s)] [display_format] [file_attributes] [sorted] [time] [options]
