TRACERT (Trace Route),
a command-line utility that you can use to trace the path that an Internet
Protocol (IP) packet takes to its destination.
The TRACERT diagnostic
utility determines the route to a destination by sending Internet Control
Message Protocol (ICMP) echo packets to the destination.
you can use traceroute
to figure out where the longest delays are occurring.
In these packets,
TRACERT uses varying IP Time-To-Live (TTL) values. The TTL value specifies how
many hops the packet is allowed before it is returned.
