Driver

A driver is a small piece of software that tells the operating system and other software how to communicate with a piece of hardware.

• Each device has its own set of specialized commands that only its driver knows.

• In personal computers, a driver is often packaged as a dynamic link library (DLL) file.

• Every device, whether it be a printer, disk drive or keyboard, must have a driver program.
